Watering Can Redo

You might recall me mentioning my own idea for a watering can, here.

Well, check out what I did!

So, this lovely gal is what I started with. I figured, piece of cake. I'll just get some Goo Gone and this sticker will come right off...

WRONG!! I tried, sand paper, my ELECTRIC SANDER, water, a razor blade... and all I got were little chunks of paper here and there. I finally, decided, "Oh well, I'm painting over the sticker!!"

I mixed up my acrylics and got to it! The colors I used for mixing were metallic green, yellow, red & blue.

I wanted a green watering can. Then, I added yellow and blue (seperately) in only a couple areas, and used my Distressed Ink around the edges for an aged/worn look. (Distressed Ink is the brown you see.)

As a side note: You can imagine my frustration when I realized I probably didn't need to even bother with trying to remove the sticker. You couldn't even tell it was under the paint! Oh the joys of crafting!! :o)

I decided I didn't want to paint over the handles and the end of the spout, to stick with the idea of an old/worn look.

You could just leave the watering can like this if you want a similar watering can to the ones below.

I wanted a little something more. I used gardening themed stencils I found at Hobby Lobby to add the flowers and word "Garden".  To add different colors to your flowers, let one layer dry, mix a new color and place a smaller sized flower stencil on top of the other and repeat until it looks the way you want! I added white to my previously mentioned acrylics for my flower colors. Don't forget to do the "layering" effect to words you add, as well!

It's WAY more more fun to water flowers with a pretty watering can!!
