Closet Clean Up!

As it turns out, I'm not really a fan of sliding closet doors. I don't have a problem with how they look. My issue is the amount of space they waste. There is always one side of the closet you can't get to!

Clearly, this closet was used for storage. The kind of storage where you just throw it in there, shut the door really fast and pray nothing falls. This was fine and dandy before my little one started opening the doors (I mean where else am I supposed to put ALL of her stuff?), but now, I really want to make use of this space and get it organized! First idea, bye-bye doors!! 

This is where we are for now... BUT, I'M NOT DONE! This is just the clean up! I still need to put up my new doors, find a cute shoe organizer and add a couple more things!!

I'm pretty excited about the new cubes with fabric drawers - they store tons of stuff and best of all you can't see it!! Added bonus, I found them at Fry's Market Place where they were on sale $15 cheaper than Target AND the drawers were buy one get one FREE!! You know how I love a good deal!

Ribbon Organizer

I have tons of ribbon, but until now, my way of storing it just wasn't working. This pile will cost ya! I can't tell you how many times I have run to the store for more ribbon only to find out later, I had it the whole time! Plus, it's so much easier to "craft" when you can actually see what your working with!

All you need for your ribbon organizer is:

• Drill
• 1/2 inch drill bit
• "Box like" Shelf (My shelf was repurposed from our bathroom remodel)
• 3/8 inch wooden dowel rods ($0.59 each from HL)
• Dowel Rod ends ($1.47 for a pack of four from HL)

Total Cost: $2.65!!

This is sooo simple!!

I wanted my large ribbon on top and the small ribbon on the bottom. All I did was place my ribbon on the side of the shelf and marked the center with a pen. 

Tip: Don't forget to use the biggest spool of your large ribbon and the biggest spool of your small ribbon when marking the holes to make sure they both will fit.

Drill your holes, measure their location for the opposite side and drill again.

 

Put your dowels through and add the dowel ends.

Reminder: When you pick out your dowel ends make sure they fit a 3/8 inch dowel rod, and don't forget to make sure the outside of the dowel end is bigger than 1/2 inch. If not, they won't work with the holes you just drilled. I hate when I get home and I can't finish a project because I didn't pay attention to every little detail.

Another Reminder: Take your smallest center hole of ribbon with you (or measure it) so you can be sure your ribbon will fit on the dowel!

Organize your ribbon by color.

Then, add them to your new ribbon organizer!!

Not a fan of the ribbon tails???

 My simple solution: Just add scotch tape the the ends! Keep a roll of the tape on top of your shelf or hang it on one of your dowel ends so you can easily add more tape when you use your ribbon!

My new ribbon organizer holds 40 spools of ribbon!!

Bonus: When I decide what colors are going in my craft room, I can paint my shelf to match!

Extra Bonus: Because I repurposed a shelf I have the option of hanging it on a wall or setting it wherever I want!

Easy, Adorable, Organized Storage for Everyone!!

If you need cute, organized storage, this is guaranteed to be it!! I was reading one of my favorite blogs, check it out here, and came across this super cute Love Note Box, check it out here. I realized there are about a million and one items waiting to be stored in a box like this. I have a baby so I instantly started to think about toy storage, the added bonus, it's storage that can easily travel to the park or Grandma's. Honestly, this isn't just for mom's, the possibilities are endless. Here are just a few storage ideas I came up with...

• If you are a teacher, flash cards, crayons, markers, etc.

Let's make our box!

My box is going to store dress-up jewelry and those darling little play high heels. (My little one isn't quite old enough for all of that stuff so I am going to save it for her.) Here are the supplies you will need. I purchased all of my items at, I'm sure you will be shocked, Hobby Lobby. The main idea is finding scrapbooking paper and embellishments to match your theme. When it comes to scrapbooking paper and stickers the possibilities are as endless as what you will store in your box! I went with a princess theme... because it's dress up! 



To start, rip all your paper. You can save the edges of your paper for the edges of your box for a more finished look. I ended up tearing most of the edges off. I wanted my box to look old. Then just take your Mod Podge glue and glue the paper to the box. I covered my box completely with paper, but this is your box, so cover as much or as little as you want!

After all your pieces are glued down, put the Mod Podge on top of everything. I just covered each side as I moved along. This is what your box should look like after. I rubbed my Distressed Ink along the sides to help achieve the old look I was going for.

Now, the fun part! It's time to embellish your box! I added, princess themed stickers, "pearls", "diamonds", ribbon, roses & used stickers to write "Princess". I covered the ribbon and the word "Princess" in the Mod Podge as well.

Finished! The box looks glossy in this picture because the Mod Podge wasn't quite dry.
